House Church: The Vision |
||||
The Bible describes church life, meetings, and leadership as alive, vibrant, and free from any trappings of a business or "corporation." The early church (i.e., the church described in the Bible, that started meeting after Jesus rose from the dead) met in homes. Money was not spent on buildings. Leadership was by example, not by title, and involved serving and not exaltation. Church meetings were informal, enjoyable, and powerful. A "house church" is simply church that meets in a house - or an apartment, in an office, or anywhere else convenient. If a house church grows beyond what the house can comfortably accommodate, a new house church is started. Leadership is by those willing to serve and be examples to others of godly character and sincere devotion to Christ. Oversight of the churches is by experienced leaders who generally travel among several (or many) churches. Additional input (for example, teaching and preaching) is by those with particular giftings. We welcome you to check out a house church--if you would like friendship and a challenge to grow spiritually, a church that meets in a house may be perfect for you! |
